Peugeot 305 Mk2 Service Plan

This service plan is intended for use with all XU-engined Peugeot 305’s (1905cc and 1580cc) – these include all 305’s made after 1985 and top-end 305’s from 1982 onwards. Different engine maintenance may be required on older 305’s with XL5 or XR5 engines.

Please Note: The Peugeot 305 International Owner’s Club will not assume responsibility about the incorrect use of this information. This plan is not intended to substitute the original Peugeot service plan, but only to complement it with the experiences of 305 owners.

   Basic Service: (approx. every 10 000 km/5000 miles)

-         Check radiator fluid.

-         Check power steering oil level (if applicable).

-         Check brake fluid level.

-         Change engine oil:
Peugeot advised Esso Uniflo+ 10w40 SF/CC semi-synthetic oil. Nowadays we advise the use of full-synthetic oil, such as Mobil 10W40, 5W50 or Castrol GT Magnatec Plus.  Remember that using higher quality oil can protect and preserve the engine and its parts better and that regularly changing the oil will ultimately increase the life of your engine. If high-quality engine oil is used, the duration between oil changes may be increase to 20000 km/10000 miles.

Air conditioning maintenance A: (approx. 20 000 km/10 000 miles)

-         Check the condition and tension of compressor belt.

-         Check the tightness of mounting brackets.

-         Check the fastenings condition of the R12 (Freon) cooling hoses, the flow of condensed water from the evaporator.

-         Check the idling electro-valve check the functioning of compressor clutch and condenser fan motor.

Note: During the winter, operate the air conditioning for a brief period each week in order to keep it in working order.

Air conditioning maintenance B: (approx. every 30 000 km/20 000 miles, or every year)   

-         Check the charge of R12 refrigerant and the circuit for leaks.

-         Clean the condensor and the radiator matrix. Remember that missing this maintenance could cause health injuries.

-         Change the air filter. Note: in certain countries the use of Freon R12 is not allowed. Use ecological CFC-free R134a cooling liquid.

Engine tune-up: (approx. every 20 000 km/10 000 miles)   

Regular engine tuning will reduce pollution and fuel consumption and will result in better engine running.

-     Idling: Once the engine is warm, check that it idles smoothly at 600-750 RPM.
